SPEAK YOUR MIND

"Does the distance one travels from center make one more free to move?"

"No. Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphor has two parts: form and interpretation. Of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom is being the bricoleur, the mason."

A couple more notes from the art department.

The alien weapon was concepted and art directed by myself. I don't recall how I came upon such a design, except I was looking for something that was a cross between Giger's Alien and Marathon 1's alien weapon. I have a couple crude sketches in a sketchbook stashed away...

Anyhow, one of the major deviations of this weapon from the original is that it be entirely wieldable from the hand. Due to our utilization of look aim, and character models that actually looked where you aimed, things such as backpacks, and models that connected to players ribs/shoulders was a no no.

Anywho, I built the model, Maniac took my direction and ran with it for the texture, and I'm very pleased how it came out all things considered.

The SPNKR in M1 is a bizarre rocket launcher. As it looks like two missles on a platform with a blast deflector that points down, in theory potentially pushing you up into the air every time you fired a shot. I essentially took the Marathon 2 rocket launcher, which despite some oddities in itself, was a lot more realistic/comprehendable, and combined it with modern rocket launcher design. The fact that it looks something like Halo shouldn't be surprising as we were both designing towards more realistic weapons at the time.

The texture job on the SPNKR is quite lame IMO (and I'm allowed to say that, as I did it.) and even more appalling are the UVs to the SPRNK model. They are barely sufficient, but reflect the pinnicle of my abilities at the time with very limited software.
