SPEAK YOUR MIND

"Does the distance one travels from center make one more free to move?"

"No. Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphor has two parts: form and interpretation. Of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom is being the bricoleur, the mason."

In Response To: Re: Critique: weapons part 2 (Tycho)

: As we (I and a couple of the other team members) were
: reading these posts, we couldn't help, but bite our
: lip a bit thinking "Geez, I hope these people
: aren't waiting for updates coming out with all these
: changes". I am a little bit conflicted. On the
: one hand, we really admire and appreciate this input,
: because it's not impossible that will we release a
: patch and some updates to M:R, but it is unlikely that
: we will make some of the whole-sale changes you've
: brought up in your post. Furthermore, the chance for
: changing actual weapon models and art is very close to
: 0. The updates and patches that are likely would be
: things like map updates/additions and MAYBE some
: code/script adjustments, but by and large, M:R 2.0
: with the MP Fix is as close to a final version as
: you'll get. It's also possible that if we do put out a
: patch, we'll roll all the last few changes into a 2.01
: or some such. I'm not telling all this to discourage
: people though, and most certainly not to discourage
: someone like you to so throughly write and analyze our
: labour.

I'd like to encourage you to do just that: collect all the feedback on M:R, decide what's worth adjusting, and make those changes part of a post-release update, what you called 2.0.1.

I want to make clear I'm impressed with the job you guys have done, and overall this is a pretty solid, fun mod. Clearly 99% of the hard work is done, and everyone should be proud of that. But I also feel that certain elements are worth improving, particularly matters of bugs and game balance. Case in point, you can't play through the whole game without cheating. I don't think it's unreasonable to consider a game not entirely finished when that's the case.

If you're warm to the idea, it would encourage me to offer more feedback of this caliber, at an accelerated pace if necessary. I can also try to help where I can. I haven't modded UT specifically before, but it's something I'd like to learn anyway. I'm a 3D artist with a programming background, trying to break into games, so I'm always looking for good ways to supplement my portfolio. Just for example, I could create a new KKV model pretty fast; I'd just need to know the technical constraints of UT.

: Again, thanks for the thorough post, and enjoy M:R. It
: really would be great if some of you guys managed to
: meet up for some MP M:R games. It's a lot of fun, and
: I think most of you are missing out on a great little
: experience. :)

That sounds like fun. Unfortunately my UT seems to query the master server endlessly, and never finds any game servers.
