SPEAK YOUR MIND
"Does the distance one travels from center make one more free
to move?"
"No. Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as
metaphor has two parts: form and interpretation. Of course,
the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom,
as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning.
Freedom is being the bricoleur, the mason."

Sound Issues: Sound Penetration and Skips/Glitches
Posted By: Wail of Suicide Date: 2005.9.27.07.13
In Response To: Projectile Activated Switches (..)
So I'm working a bit on Colony Ship, checking everything out and giving it a little bit of polish... And one thing I've noticed is that there are some rather annoying sound issues. Nothing horrendous, really, but minor glitches that annoy me because they make no sense.
First of all, the sounds associated with my movers started off really loud, and could be heard through BSP geometry into other zones quite easily. Now, I don't really know if this is normal behavior, I suspect it is... Anyway, I solved the problem by going into the Sound field of the movers and changing their sound radius and volume. So now the movers are a good deal quieter. Problem comes in: I go to a place with movers in my map, I stand on the mover. As it's moving, I jump up. Sound glitch as the volume increases for a split second.
Other examples are, when you step into a certain corner of the starting room, the sound 'skips' and gets really loud for a second.
Now, most of these problems could be fixed, it seems, if I were able to forcibly block sounds -- Is there anything like a zone portal, but for sounds? Or am I just going to have to fiddle with it/live with it?
