They aren't plama, just big regular LCD screens. I've seen a 23" one at E3, they are amazing. But in fact, it was so wide, I had to move my head to left and right to read on it!
As for your decision to buy a mac, I hope you are ready to pay the price, because otherwise you'll end up paying a lot for not much. For exemple, you can get an pretty good PC for 1500$, while you'll only get the worst G4 for that price, without a screen, and with only 256Mb of ram and a Geforce4 MX. I agree that macs are cool computers, but IMHO, they are badly overpriced, and simply not worth it.
