The automatic demo recording was included in the Beta (the pzbxay [alien weapon] also had a second trigger, charge up and shotgun style release) however I do recall having this name whilst playing the game. There wasn't really any single player, only a "select the desired level" with no console text, and some non working doors.
It was not a demo.
Amusingly, the cheat for 3x health was "Aslag" - that was when we cottoned on that the name under the health bars was actually not just random letters.
It is the only cheat in the Beta (can be verified) which is a name (excluding Fatman - SPNKR).
I might end up getting in touch with Bungie and asking them myself. Chances are they will not give heed - like all good game companies, but they might.
