How do I play with people

Hi there. In UT when I have gone to find internet games, there has only been one server ever on any of the three game styles for Resurrection for the last month. And it doesn't even work. I actually bought UT when I heard about M:R so that I could play it, so I am not well versed in the ways of UT lingo. I would really like to play online though. Could I get a description in lay-man's terms of how to do that? Please? I have been a fan of marathon forever and playing the original with my sister over our ethernet can only give so much joy. Thanks.
