The beta is zipped, so the easiest solution would be to download an unzipping program, instead of using the now pretty crappy StuffIt Expander (which is really a shame). Also, if you are using Mac OS 10.3 (Panther) you can simply control-click on the .zip file and unzip it from the Finder, as zipping and unzipping is now supported right into the OS (this will also retain the file types as they were originally encoded). Hope that helps.
