Here's what the original version does:
It loads the Marathon map in its original format. For each level in the Map file it converts each 2D polygon into a UT actor with geometry, the floor and ceiling each have a surface, and each side has 1, 2, or 3 surfaces, depending on the polygon on the other side. Texturing is (mostly) preserved. If the polygon is a platform or door it attempts to create a mover as well. Next it converts all the Marathon items into UT actors. Then it writes the maps as UT .T3D files.

The web interface then tars and gzips the maps and sends them back to the user.
