SPEAK YOUR MIND
"Does the distance one travels from center make one more free
to move?"
"No. Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as
metaphor has two parts: form and interpretation. Of course,
the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom,
as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning.
Freedom is being the bricoleur, the mason."

13th of December, Lucia
Posted By: SilentMan Date: 2002.12.13.03.06
Today it is the 13th of December (in my timezone anyway Hawk ) meaning another traditional Swedish custom is here. Today we celebrate Lucia! For you who haven't heard about it here's a short recap of the myth: young inoccent christian girl from Sicily is forced to marry heretic bad boy. Refuses to do so, got tortured, died and got voted martyr.
This might have gone right by the world as large (duh) but for some reason Sweden picked up on this and now we celebrate Lucia by getting up waaay before the sun, gathering together, listening to the young people, singing Lucia carrols (they are dressed in white robes, one of the girls is appointed Lucia and gets to wear candles in her hair, lucky her) and eat ginger bread and "lussebullar" (anyone wanna try to translate this one please do so) and drinking glögg. Now, glögg is a bit like glüewhine only sweeter, and in most cases a LOT stronger. If you have no idea of what any of those above are, then think spiced red wine served hot. 0700 in the morning...
So where ever you are in the world, grab a cookie, hot up some drinkabel stuff and start singing "Stilla natt, heliga natt, allt är frid....."
