I think that the advent of the X-Box will unite Mac and PC gamers against a common evil: that of a console that can actually rival both systems' respective strengths.
It was like that with Dreamcast. I was overjoyed when I learned that the DC Quake 3 would have online support. That way, DCers, with their funky little control console could log on to servers with their nifty little modem card...servers that were populated by hardcore gamers with Ghz Athlons, GeForce 2's, oodles of RAM, Soundblaster Lives, and ultimately tweaked config files and just blast the crap out of console users.
I hate consoles for first-person shooters. Utterly. They will NEVER match PC's or Macs for customizability. If they do, screw 'em. I'll take a G4 733 with a GeForce 3 over an X-Box any day.
