(I wouldn't be
: surprised if the MR health bar was _exactly_ the same
: number of pixels as the old one, and have people timed
: the SPNKR reload time? It's, like, perfect.
Are you kidding? If that was true, our mod would look rather crappy... Thon resolution is nowhwere near as good as UT resolution, to copy it over pixel by pixel would mean nastiness in M:R. Heh, but I think I know what you're trying to say.
: Nevertheless, will all due respect to the folks who've
: thrown out two years of their lives on this, here's my
: two kopeks, humbly submitted. FWIW, I'm going straight
: from Marathon to MR (no UT experience). Yes, I'm a
: keyboarder and yes, so far I think MR is quite
: playable for a keyboarder -- albeit pretty
: disadvantageous in a net play situation. I'll switch
: to mouse --kicking and screaming-- if I have to, but
: methinks that some modifications to MR would spare me
: (and others) from having to undergo that experience,
: as well as bring a smile to some of us old timers.
: (And no, I don't think keyboard is better than the
: mouse, it's just what I do.)
: Anyway -- my main gripe is that rotational speed for the
: marine is quite a bit slower in MR compared to
: Marathon. Quite a bit slower. ::gets SPNKed while
: turning: Quite a bit....
Mouse is your friend, learn to love mouse, with trackball and a fast finger flip, you can do a 180 before your opponent can rest his crosshairs on you. Love mouse, know that if you don't make transition soon, you will get royally spanked.
: If this is easy as changing a single parameter in the UT
: engine, could the appropriate team member please
: either implement it in a future release, or tell me
: how to do it so I can stop getting my derriere handed
: to me? (both would be ideal :-) )
Love your mouse.
: FWIW, the way the Maraton engine works is you've got two
: rot speeds -- one for when "walking," and
: one for when the running key is engaged. The former is
: what I got, the latter is what I need!
Your mouse is your friend.
: Next thing is the GLANCE feature. I noticed UT has the
: "snap back view" feature in the preferences.
: GLANCEing is essentially the reverse of that. I don't
: know about others, but I use GLANCEing all the time --
: in a map like E=MCW, it really makes a difference, not
: to mention in a map like 'Dome, where you'll be
: airborne, and where you can have the opportunity for
: close mid-air twitch kills against a grounded
: opponent.
With Mouse, you never have to use those silly keys, freeing you to multitask more effectively. Meaning you kill more. Thon's environment was limited enough that a diehard hardcore, born and raised keyboarder could hold his own in a LAN match. This is no longer true, in a fast and furious game in a true 3D engine, a keyboarder cannot simply multitask fast enough, he needs a third hand before he can dream of keeping up with a good mouser.
Love your mouse. Get an optical one, get a wireless optical mouse, learn the joys of instant headshot.
It is not hard to move to the mouse. Once you play online, against 1337 playerz and get your ass handed to you, you learn to use mouse very quickly, it's not hard at all under those circumstances.
