Your friends told you right, for sure. And if by "Story Mod" you mean singleplayer, than yes. That's what is currently trying to be finished. Multiplayer is good fun too(Mmm, Route 66), but it was the unique story aspect of Marathon 2 that got be into the series, way back when I got it free with my new Performa.
