SPEAK YOUR MIND

"Does the distance one travels from center make one more free to move?"

"No. Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphor has two parts: form and interpretation. Of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom is being the bricoleur, the mason."

Tim Bayliss - Personal Journal
When I was first assigned to Baltimore Homicide, I really thought that my career was beginning to take shape. Not that anyone becomes a cop for career advancement. After today, I wish I was still working in the Mayor's security detail. And it isn't that I think I know everything about being a homicide detective, but Frank Pembleton's arrogance astounds me. By all accounts he is a brilliant detective and a first rate Cop. As a human-being, however, he is lacking in oh-so-many ways.

Lieutenant Giardello has been pressuring us to put the case to rest. It's been 6 days since Adena Watson was murdered and I fear the case is getting cold. I am the rookie here (which means no one pays much attention to what I say) and Pembleton never misses a chance to remind me of that fact. The mishap at the crime scene has taken away all of my credibility with him. God, why did I become a cop? I feel like I am going around in a big circle. I'm losing the initiative. I have to solve this murder.

I can't get Adena Watson off of my mind. It's like she is haunting me - drawing me to finish this case. 6 days and still no solid leads, no one in the box, and no one to blame for that poor child's murder.
