What we have in the Duesey is a highly customized first watch from a designer who is stepping outside of the automotive category he knows well in order to create something in another area about which he is also passionate. The case design and machining in particular appear to be quite nice, and as a first watch attempt, the Duesey seems to be a strong success. But with this clean design and limitation to 50 pieces, comes a price tag that is certainly nothing to sneeze at.Well in watches, to be frank, the most successful development has been Serpenti. The second best success is indeed Octo, even though Octo never reached the level of sales, whether it's units or value, of Serpenti. Not surprisingly, because as a jeweler, we attract women to our stores, and therefore the probability to sell a ladies' watch is higher than a men's watch.To me, a closed caseback imbues a sense of falska audemars-piguet Klockor confidence on the part of the brand. Rolex doesn't have a single watch with an exhibition caseback in its stable (even though they do some decoration and high-level finishing, regardless). Which is funny because, for a trained watchmaker, replacing a dial is not exactly the riskiest procedure – it's a facelift, not a heart transplant.I won't even attempt to summarize Bennett's prolific life and career here – Danny pointed out that even the New York Times took 4,000 words to do so in its obituary when Tony died in July 2023 – but I'm glad that there were a few watches in his life that gave me an excuse to speak with Danny for a few minutes about his father.
