I have a soft spot for Hamilton. My first Swiss-made mechanical watch was a Khaki chronograph. Hamilton's long been a go-to brand for solid mechanical watches with attractive pricing, and it remains so. It's impressive to see Hamilton, a brand usually associated with value first, innovating by using the first-ever ETA Valjoux 7750 equipped billige breitling ure with a silicon hairspring.This is the first black dial Paul Newman that Mark has ever had, with his previous examples all having white or cream colored dials. There's something a little sportier, but also a little less aggressive and in-your-face about this variation, and it's a watch that he wears a lot – especially when driving his Porsche Carrera RS.The watch has a safety system, which prevents the crown from being pulled out when the chimes are activated (and which also blocks the chimes from striking if the crown is pulled out). The tourbillon cage is fitted with a stop seconds mechanism, for more precise time-setting (the one-minute tourbillon's gold pointer functions as a seconds hand).The surprise in this category has been integrated bracelet watches. Like the Chopard, we can't seem to find enough mesh-like integrated bracelets, precious metal watches to offer. Frankly, these were a tough sell even six months ago. The style is polarizing but the 80s are making a comeback, especially with younger collectors.Not only do the watches recapture the magic of those 2020 OPs, they live in the tradition of Richard Mille's candy-colored Bonbons. Any time the watch industry takes itself less seriously, we are here for it.While the price of the standard El Primero chronograph ($10,000 on bracelet) faces stiff competition, it's tough to think of a direct competitor once you slap a triple calendar and moonphase in it. The most direct comp is the Breitling Premier B25 Datora 42, a nice watch that is also $14,000 but measures 42mm x 15.3mm thick. It's hard to say that the two are competing for exactly the same wrists, even if their mid-century aesthetics might share an Eames Chair.
