Surprise, surprise, we saw many more crazy watches in Dubai, including a small fraction replica piaget Kellot of one of the region's most impressive private collections, belonging to Mr. Mohammed Seddiqi himself, and some amazingly rare watches from the independent watchmaking scene – we'll have a whole lot more later this week in our photo recap of Dubai Watch Week 2016.Matching supply with demand is a major priority at Richemont these days. It soared to the top of Richemont’s agenda last year when the company took the unusual step of spending €249 million to buy back excess watches, to prevent them from being sold to unauthorized dealers. Two-thirds were Cartier watches in China and Hong Kong; the rest were from Vacheron Constantin, and other brands in Richemont’s Specialist Watchmakers division.The case design is not a direct recreation of the original model upon which this is somewhat loosely based. Instead, the watch utilizes the same case as another Nivada re-edition called the Spider. Some hallmarks of this case are its combination of brushed and polished surfaces, as well as the unique shape of the lugs. This is only really apparent when you examine the watch in the hand. On the wrist, it's nearly imperceptible.When Pierce Brosnan took the mantle as James Bond, he did so with a brand-new watch on his wrist: The Omega Seamaster Professional 300m — a spiritual successor to the 1957 Seamaster 300 but with undeniably late 20th-century styling. Few watch brands can hang their hat on a design from the 1990s, but the SMP 300m has become a stalwart for Omega.Competition is a bit tough for these because there aren't many brands currently hitting this price point with a sporty GMT. But let's kick it off with Grand Seiko, who offers quartz GMTs like the $3,400 SBGN027 or Spring Drives like the $5,800 SBGE201, which is 44mm wide and 14.7mm thick. Grand Seiko makes many GMTs, but they are largely either less than the Tudor (thanks to being quartz) or more, like the Spring Drive SBGE201.

They both wear digital watches reminiscent of old '90s Timex, but are apparently something called Sega Sports watches.This Benrus advertisement from 1967 recognizes the customer as "young, active and full of enthusiasm," and implores retailers to consider that Benrus makes watches for a changing consumer landscape. This sort of communication trades on the opposite of nostalgia; it abandons the notion that watches connect folks to the past and instead suggests that watches are paving the way for the future. Price on November 21st at launch, $368,000.The first of the two Soko Frost watches you see here, the SBGA471, features the angular 44GS case design, a classic Grand Seiko design that we can trace back more than half a century. It has come to embody the Grand Seiko style with its polished, flat surfaces achieved through Zaratsu polishing, named for Sallaz technique practiced on German machines of the same name.From 1957 through today, with an over four-decade break, the Seamaster 300 holds an important place in the annals of dive watch lore.
