SPEAK YOUR MIND

"Does the distance one travels from center make one more free to move?"

"No. Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphor has two parts: form and interpretation. Of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom is being the bricoleur, the mason."

The Watches We Wore To Our HODINKEE Job Interviews

The original Heritage Spirit Orbis Terrarum was exactly the kind of watch we want to see more of – a simple, yet elegant complication with an in-house module for under $7,000. So we were thrilled when Montblanc decided to show more of it, 12 months later, this time in the 4810 collection. This watch quickly earned the nickname "the full gold G-Shock" in most circle Réplicas Richard Mille rm 72 and for good reason: it's a big gold G-Shock. Stephen, typically one for more understated expressions, both sartorial and horological, strapped this one on for a week and fell in love with it. Sometimes the heart just wants what it wants, logic be damned.Watch the video and read the full story here.First up we have the SBGE251 Spring Drive GMT. In combining one of Grand Seiko's signature complications, the GMT, with an innovative timekeeping technology that turns 20 last year, the SBGE251 is a modern-day sport-luxury watch that I think lots of GS fans will be happy to hear about if they haven't already. Its gold bezel is actually the first instance of Grand Seiko using 18-karat rose gold on a bezel of this type, and that accent carries over to the solid gold crown. We all had our own work stations, raised platforms on a desk. These were called benches. Our tools were laid out, among them tweezers, a movement holder, three different sizes of screwdrivers, a loupe, and a plastic pointer. "One end will be used for getting components into final position, the other part is useful for holding things down in another area," Eagle said, and I wanted to add "theoretically."The green color might not be for everyone. The best argument for it is a practical one – maybe it fills a gap in the product line in a specific way and is certainly more modern than a black or white dial. But the case, crystal, and pusher designs are modern enough on their own. A white or black dial might have bridged the gap of heritage from past to present in a way that this doesn't. But it's certainly eye-catching and striking, and that is exactly what TAG Heuer is all about.

We interviewed Rexhepi almost right away to find out what he’d done to impress the great Finn, and this month, we finally had the chance to catch up with him in his new atelier to see how things have been going since receiving such high praise. Spoiler alert: It’s going pretty damn well. The Panthère is available in yellow gold, rose gold, rose gold with diamond bezel, white gold with diamond bezel, white gold covered in diamonds, white gold covered in diamonds with black enamel animal spots, two-tone steel and yellow gold, plain steel, and a limited edition rose gold with black lacquered links. The collection runs the gamut from very affordable models in steel, to full gem-set high jewelry pieces. In 1964, preparing for the Gemini and Apollo programs, where astronauts would work in space and on the moon, NASA made a wristwatch part of the astronauts' standard equipment. It began testing contenders, acquiring chronographs from five brands. After two fausses Richard Mille rm 61 rounds of rigorous tests, only the Speedmaster passed muster. In March, 1965, it became NASA's official watch for all manned missions. (A Speedy in those days cost $235, according Omega ads.)The caliber O3.05-C first appeared in the Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition and hails from Chopard's Fleurier Ebauches factory, a manufacturing center in the town of Fleurier. It's a column-wheel flyback chronograph, as I mentioned, and it runs at a standard rate of 4 Hz while delivering a respectable 60 hours of power reserve. The result is a complex, visually stimulating effect wherein the dial is engraved in different directions, creating almost imperceptible sections within the dial that reveal themselves depending on the light. This muted design is meant to invoke a certain graphical pattern found on Must de Cartier watches from the 1980s. While it may appear that each dial presents several shades of its color, that is merely perceived due to the nature of the engravings. And this particular watch, to say nothing of the fact that it's a skeleton that looks to be remarkably legible, gives off a certain steampunk vibe. And I mean that as a compliment. This feels like it was pulled out of a Guillermo Del Toro movie or Snowpiercer. It's both futuristic and timeless and lives up to the Moser name because it takes a well-known format and brings something truly new to it.

Neither of these watches is revolutionary, but would you really want them to be? What Rolex does best is slow, careful iteration, and changes not for their own sake, but only for the sake of improvement. The black dial option brings a classic Rolex staple to the Oyster repliki Richard Mille rm 21 Perpetual family, albeit with its own personality, and the white dial option brings something fresh to the table that allows for a completely different look that works in just about any setting.Brand: Longines Model: SpiritReference Number: L3.810 (40mm, several iterations) and L3.811 (42mm, several iterations). Diameter: 40mm or 42mm Case Material: SteelDial Color: Matte black, grained silver, sunray blueIndexes: ArabicLume: Super-LumiNova Water Resistance: 100 metersStrap/Bracelet: Leather strap or steel bracelet, "Prestige Edition" includes bracelet, strap, and a leather NATO – all with quick-release hardware.Man, what a form factor on the wrist. The watch is so thin, and it's just about the perfect weight, too. So easy to wear, and the bracelet is top notch. Folks will call it a hair puller, but that's also because it disappears so easily on the wrist when it's not pulling hair that sometimes it needs to let you know it's still there. While previous watches, like a certain "Kermit" Submariner, got their nicknames from collectors, Oris is doing it the official way by working with Disney's The Muppets for a new ProPilot X Calibre 400 "Kermit Edition." It has all the Oris touches you know and love, plus a bright green dial and a frog inside the date window.
