While I think we can agree that Bell & Ross isn't for everyone, this watch certainly is. It's timeless, well-proportioned, wears nicely on the wrist and has an automatic movement. And the price? Well that's the best part. At $1,900 this watch can be yours. What is and isn't expensive is a relative thing but for me, this is a great price for a timepiece with great design and a clean wrist presence.But the young brand is working on a watch that's just about as true to the original as one can get. The second generation, introduced seven years after the first, was 42mm, had chunkier twisted lugs, and also featured a wider bezel with hashes for every minute. Omega introduced two versions, the no-date ref. 165.024 and the ref. 166.024 with a date at three o’clock. I would've been okay with the 43mm Big Pilot, and even better with a Mark series edition. What I hadn't counted on The updated high-polish lugs aren't necessarily in keeping with the original either (nor are they the same shape with all the modern facets) but I like the idea of updating an original and the sides of the lugs still keep a great brushed texture. The brushed dial is in keeping with the vintage as well. You also get the Calibre TH20-00 Automatic column wheel chronograph that was announced this year.One thing I haven't pointed out yet is maybe the most subtle thing on an otherwise unsubtle watch, but the lugs nearest the nose of the Serpenti are the fangs. Technically, if you're a herpetologist, I think you'd agree that these would qualify as solenoglyphous fangs – long, hollow (okay, sort of), and articulated. They help with the wearability of the watch and conform better to the wrist on the hand-stitched rubber strap with velcro.Briggs Cunningham has long been someone I'd wanted to write about, but never did I think I'd have the chance to experience one of his cars in real life. And then, as you know, I attended the amazing Copperstate 1000. One of the participating cars? Yes, a Le Mans-running Cunningham C-2R!
