SPEAK YOUR MIND

"Does the distance one travels from center make one more free to move?"

"No. Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphor has two parts: form and interpretation. Of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom is being the bricoleur, the mason."

The Swatch & Keith Haring 'From The Archive'

The watch that sold last week was this guy over here, which broke the $275,000 mark at Bukowski’s Auction House in Sweden. That's a record for the Ref. CK 2915-1 "Broad Arrow," the first Speedmaster fausses zenith montres and a grail for Speedy lovers. This next piece comes from a brand that's always been a favorite of mine, largely because they're responsible for manufacturing my first decent watch. Since that piece entered my collection, I've always been a fan of Zodiac dive watch designs. When approached by budding collectors looking to pick up a diver, I'll often point them in the direction of the Sea Wolf.Offered on a fabric strap or a leather bracelet, the 925 is not especially heavy. At 87g on the leather strap, it’s not heavy like a solid gold watch and the case is not weighty enough to make the watch feel unbalanced due to the lack of a matched bracelet. There's also the US-centric matter of nicknaming the watch that ignores a lot of the scholarship that's happened in the East regarding the 6105. Sadao Ryugo's book, The Birth Of The Seiko Professional Diver's Watch, is a great place to see how the collecting community and Seiko historians in Japan view the important highlights of the 6105's history. These watches all have one thing in common: They are way more expensive than the one receiving our inaugural Watch of the Year award. Whereas our watch of the year – the MoonSwatch collaboration between Omega and Swatch – was meant for the masses. In the end it proved to be so popular that, months later, many would-be collectors are still waitiBut the watches alone didn't break the internet. Omega and Swatch decided to forgo e-commerce in favor of doing things the old-fashioned way: having eager buyers line up outside a Swatch store and praying they might pick one up.

These were extendable, supremely comfortable and falske cartier ure robust. They were also very simple to produce at scale for someone with Gay Frères’s expertise (more on that later). The style was popular at the time and other companies were capable of supplying the same design to Rolex (and they did!), but the build quality of GF’s impresses the most.Caliber: 3230Functions: Hours, minutes, secondsDiameter: 36mmPower Reserve: 70 hoursWinding: AutomaticFrequency: 28,800 vphJewels: 31Chronometer Certified: Superlative Chronometer Certified (C.O.S.C. certification and Rolex certification)Morikawa's watch appears to be the black dial variant with white markers, which debuted back in 2013. Interestingly, Omega released another watch in this collection one year later that is similar to this one but features faux-aged markers. We can tell the two watches apart by the hands. The 2014 model brought back the classic broad arrow Omega hands. Morikawa's piece doesn't have that. Honestly, the absence of the broad arrow motif on his watch lends itself to a more modern styling.Brand: G-ShockModel: Bamford DW-6900BWD-1ERReference Number: DW-6900BWD-1ERDiameter: 53.2mmThickness: 18.7mmCase Material: Plastic Dial Color: Black, negative LCDLume: EL backlightWater Resistance: 200 metersThe hours and minutes – the central thesis of the argument, if you will – were off-center, and the bottom of the main time display was overlapped by a running small-seconds subdial. The oversized date window was where four o'clock would have been if all hell had not already broken loose. The moonphase, in a more classic crescent aperture, takes up the space that between what would normally be two and three o'clock.

But it doesn’t end there. The decorative covers (front and back) hide a skeletonized movement with a one-minute tourbillon on the front and an engraved, open-worked rotor on the other. The amount of work that has gone into finishing the caliber is almost absurd. It doesn’t matter how much or how little experience you have with high-end watchmaking, this is very clearly an exceptional piece, both in terms of mechanical engineering and use of decorative arts. The cars were clearly the star of the festival, but there’s a quiet sideshow going on among those with a burning fascination with all things mechanical. It doesn’t take place on the course, but rather on the wrist. Beyond the cars, the festival serves as an excuse for enthusiasts to strap on their favorite timepiece, reveling in the notion that there’s a tiny mechanical machine beating away on their person while observing the larger machines running at full tilt on the course. The LVMH Watch Division is starting 2022 off with the latest edition of LVMH Watch Week, an online exhibition featuring new watches from Zenith, replika Klokker TAG Heuer, Hublot, and Bulgari, beginning Monday, January 24, 2022.A gift from his mother-in-law, this limited edition poster by artist Ross Murray hangs in Dash's living room. It's the perfect combination of his interest in art and his fascination with jazz visionary Sun Ra. "I saw this film at BAM in Brooklyn and I became obsessed with him. I started buying every single record. I bought his books. He has a book of poetry that is amazing. And everything he does is mystical and mythological. I think he's just an amazing figure."As Tony Traina pointed out in his review, this was likely one of the most important releases from Tudor at Watches and Wonders last year, putting a master chronometer movement inside its classic 41mm black bay, adding a bracelet with no faux-rivets and adding the brand's T-fit clasp. It might have been overshadowed by the Black Bay 54, but there's no question it was a hit. It also was the perfect color for the 49ers' unlikely star, mixing red and gold.I've seen the feedback that people might have liked if Omega skipped the "Olympics" branding on the caseback. The fact is, the watch is strong enough as its own release. It frankly doesn't bother me much. If I could change one thing, that wouldn't be it.
