CK 2915-1 "Broad Arrow," the first Speedmaster fausses zenith montres and a grail for Speedy lovers.This next piece comes from a brand that's always been a favorite of mine, largely because they're responsible for manufacturing my first decent watch. Since that piece entered my collection, I've always been a fan of Zodiac dive watch designs. When approached by budding collectors looking to pick up a diver, I'll often point them in the direction of the Sea Wolf.Offered on a fabric strap or a leather bracelet, the 925 is not especially heavy. At 87g on the leather strap, it’s not heavy like a solid gold watch and the case is not weighty enough to make the watch feel unbalanced due to the lack of a matched bracelet.There's also the US-centric matter of nicknaming the watch that ignores a lot of the scholarship that's happened in the East regarding the 6105. These were extendable, supremely comfortable and falske cartier ure robust. They were also very simple to produce at scale for someone with Gay Frères’s expertise (more on that later). Interestingly, Omega released another watch in this collection one year later that is similar to this one but features faux-aged markers. We can tell the two watches apart by the hands. The 2014 model brought back the classic broad arrow Omega hands. Morikawa's piece doesn't have that. The oversized date window was where four o'clock would have been if all hell had not already broken loose. The moonphase, in a more classic crescent aperture, takes up the space that between what would normally be two and three o'clock.
But it doesn’t end there. The decorative covers (front and back) hide a skeletonized movement with a one-minute tourbillon on the front and an engraved, open-worked rotor on the other. The amount of work that has gone into finishing the caliber is almost absurd. It doesn’t matter how much or how little experience you have with high-end watchmaking, this is very clearly an exceptional piece, both in terms of mechanical engineering and use of decorative arts.The cars were clearly the star of the festival, but there’s a quiet sideshow going on among those with a burning fascination with all things mechanical. The fact is, the watch is strong enough as its own release. It frankly doesn't bother me much. If I could change one thing, that wouldn't be it.
