IWC's Smaller Pilot's Chronograph Is Cleared For Takeoff
MVMT was founded in 2013 by Jacob Kassan and Kramer LaPlante, two California-based twenty-somethings who had a vision to sell affordable, stylish watches to people their own age. It's hard to argue with the success of that vision. Last year, MVMT achieved revenue of approximately $71 million, largely through a direct-to-consumer link business model. Kassan and LaPlante will continue to operate MVMT under the structure of the deal. For the purposes of this exercise, we'll label the 28/34mm bucket the "Non-lacquer" dials. This is because the available color options here are all of the sunray variety: blue, black, pink (called rose), and silver. Now, this is not the first secret launch for Rolex this year. A few months ago, it quietly released a special Day-Date in celebration of the Vienna Philharmonic with a uniquely playful dial. This comes in the wake of a couple of other "off-season" surprise announces in recent memory, from the Deep-Sea Challenge in late 2022 to the Le Mans Daytona last year. The year 2024 is young, Watches & Wonders is on the horizon, and it is exciting to see what Rolex has in store for us next.
The following is a consideration of a few things that will seem link obvious to the divers and dive watch nerds among us, but is far from conventional knowledge to the non-diver. So, if you want to dip a whole lot more than your toe into the world of SCUBA and its myriad dive watches, here's some hopefully helpful advice. After the first day, the watches sold out. They would be replenished, only we didn't know how and we didn't know when. We heard whispers that Swatch might eventually sell these online, in fact many commenters on this site railed against the line-sitters thinking that one day they might simply order one to their home. That day never came, unless you got tired of waiting and moonwalked over to eBay.
As regular HODINKEE readers are probably aware, the National Watch And Clock Museum is the only museum of its kind in the United States, with a collection of watches and clocks spanning centuries. This is a chance to look through some of the amazing objects in its archives from (as they say) the comfort of your own home – and just maybe get the motivation you need to make a visit in person, which we can't recommend strongly enough.Audemars Piguet continues to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first precious metal Royal Oak (kicked off with link these frosted gold numbers back in November) with the release of a new Royal Oak Ultra-Thin Ref. 15202 "Jumbo" in yellow gold. This is big news for AP lovers, as the manufacture only recently started re-releasing certain watches from the Royal Oak collection in yellow gold, and this particular model is a fan favorite. So what is different about this new Ultra-Thin? Let's find out.Cutter's most recent project is a follow-up to the Chilton, called the "Chillllton." Take one look at it and you'll see why. "It's an experiment. Anyone wearing tie-dye is about having fun. After this past year it's all about just having fun." Cutter says it's an "off to the side" kind of watch, but he's just happy that he found a supplier who could even make a dial with tie-dye.
