SPEAK YOUR MIND
"Does the distance one travels from center make one more free
to move?"
"No. Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as
metaphor has two parts: form and interpretation. Of course,
the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom,
as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning.
Freedom is being the bricoleur, the mason."

: I am new to UnrealEd, I started using it a few days ago
: and have completed a pretty nice level using tutorials
: from 3DBuzz.com. I'd be willing to do some SP maps if
: someone can help me out with various things. A
: tutorial or something on porting from Marathon to
: Unreal, and which map I should work on, etc.
The timing on this is a little bit off, however, I wouldn't say don't do any SP maps. We're in the process of taking the maps we have and putting them together in a final package. However, I'm sure that there's some interest among people to play the missing SP maps on their own, if they wanted to. The only catch is that unless you start and finish the maps in a very short timeframe (a couple of weeks) they will not be included in this final build.
As to help to get started, search the forum, there's been lots of posts on the subject, and the best thing to do is to download Marathon 1 for Aleph One (M1A1) for reference, go through the original Marathon maps, download the equivalent MMC maps that you want to try to build, from FileBall.net (read past messages) and get started. Once you start, ask questions here. The forum isn't as active as it once was, but I'm certain people will jump in to help.
Good luck and welcome aboard.
