This is exactly what I mean. Although perhaps they won't for a melee just - they'll just have to pause to use a ranged attack. We'll see how it affects gameplay and the Marathon feel. Or maybe some creatures will and some won't. Now that it has been mentioned I definitely think the Spht should pause when firing i fonly because it fits the plots better. At one point Durandal tells you something like, "You should know that the Spht fight poorly on purpose."
