What is the point?!

This may have already been discussed in an earlier thread, but what the hell is the point of all these security levels? Is there actually something worthwhile at the end or is this just a bunch of mental masturbation? I have a feeling that Tycho is going to reply, "Only one way to find out..."
I guess I would just like a little incentive to solve the puzzles.
