SPEAK YOUR MIND
"Does the distance one travels from center make one more free
to move?"
"No. Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as
metaphor has two parts: form and interpretation. Of course,
the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom,
as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning.
Freedom is being the bricoleur, the mason."

In Response To: Ussing UT engine to full potential (PlasticIdol)
: Hey guys i first want to say i love this! i been a
: marathon fan since it came out, but my one problem im
: having is this, why dont you use the UT engine to its
: full potential? rereate existing maps with theoretical
: details... instaid of those same square rooms and
: ceilings... do you think if bungie had this technology
: the game would be so *ehem* flat?... i wanna see some
: of my old school favorite marathon levels with terrain
: outside and arched doorways and such... i mean just
: take a look at bungies art section for the design and
: concept arts of the marathon series... they didnt want
: it to look that blocky my friends... and now we have
: the technology and power to break out of marathons
: 2.5D world, into a full fledged 3D environment...
To put it mildly, this is still a topic of debate. We want to try and give everyone what they want. We're doing this as much for the fans as ourselves, so we feel that every fan should enjoy it.
Some fans want a carbon-copy of Marathon, only in total 3D. Some want a total revamp, where the maps are completely redone, weapons are different, enemies are scarier, etc...
We're basically compromising. We're preserving the original map geometry, for the most part. Remaking ALL the original maps with new geometric bells-and-whistles would be ridiculously time-consuming. But, we are COMPLETELY revamping the M1 texture set, so your maps will be blocky, but the textures will look gorgeous (that I can guarantee).
