These are two very different things...
People are getting the impression that Resurrection is meant to be an exact carbon copy of Marathon...it isn't. While a very vast majority of Marathon gameplay will be incorporated into Resurrection it will not be a 100% carbon copy.
What is important to remember is that the reason this team exist is Marathon and we want to bring Marathon along with the rest of the new developments in game engine technology. Thus, what we miss and what we liked from the original Marathon will be reflected in what we do, however if we wanted to play the same old game..we simply...would.
Marathon:Resurrection is to the UT engine closer to what Rune is to the UT engine than what M|R is. It is important to think of this as an almost entirely new game. We are, after all, redoing 99% of the material to take advantage of the new game engine.
There are differences regarding various aspects of the game even among team members, but that is a good thing. If we agreed on absoultely everything then we wouldn't be true..we'd be bullsh-ting. What it comes down to in the end, is to produce something that each and every one of us can be proud of and that is, MOST OF ALL, enjoyable to play.
So ultimately..comparisons are unavoidable, but mostly redundant. Comparing to M|R or Marathon Arena (Quake) or TacOps or Infiltration or God knows what is much beside the point. I urge you to try and experience M:R on it's own, and allow yourself to experience THIS game.
I personally am very pleased with everyone suggestions and bugs reports as well as complaints. When people care enough to do that, then we've done a good enough job to affect them..I hope we can continue to do so.
