SPEAK YOUR MIND

"Does the distance one travels from center make one more free to move?"

"No. Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphor has two parts: form and interpretation. Of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom is being the bricoleur, the mason."

: Yah I personally don't think Rampancy is any closer in
: feel to Resurrection. Certainly Resurrection has great
: graphics, the textures and lighting are nicely done.
: But neither has the same physics. Its kind of
: dissapointing. I mean its like a whole other game.
: Parts of both projects are reminiscent of Marathon and
: make you remember it more but...sigh...I wish I had a
: PC so I could try to duplicate the physics. The rest
: of it is great though. =)

Actually, I think Rampancy did a pretty good job with the physics.

Not emulating Marathon player physics was a conscious decision we made pretty early on in development. The Marathon engine is dated and frankly, a lot of the physics are just plain broken... aerial rotational acceleration is a limitation, not a feature -- you can change direction while falling because you're not actually falling at all. Implementing it makes about as much sense as removing the ability to jump. It doesn't make sense to cripple the engine when the whole point of the project is to use the new technology.

That, and modifying player movement is somewhere near the top of The List Of Bad Things To Do. I dunno -- maybe we'll implement it in the singleplayer; maybe if I'm bored enough I'll give net play a stab too. But as things stand right now there are currently no plans to try and emulate player movement physics.
