I'm a sucker for fiddling. ;-) My Mac shipped with 8.5. I had to use a few tricks to get 8.1 to work on it at all. Get your self a 2nd HD and run multiple OS is the advice I give to anybody (regardless of whether they want it or not). I've currently 8.1, 8.6 and 9.0.4 running on the same machine. :)
